The plane tilted gently to the left, bringing into view the expanse of the Esperance coastline.
Kilometres of white sand—scientifically proven to be some of the whitest in the world—cut
between the shimmering turquoise of the ocean and the deep green bushland. White caps rolled lazily across the water’s surface, broken only by the jagged rocks sharp as shark’s teeth along the isolated shores.

As we turned towards the airport, the view changed and every so often a farmhouse would come into view, a tiny white dot of a ute like a full stop on the red-dirt driveway. Home.
