‘I’m lookin’ for the Big Banana,’ he said to the petrol station cashier.
‘Why’s that, then?’
‘Thought’d be worth a look.’
‘On the other side of town.’ She jerked her chin. ‘That way. Can take you if you like. After my shift.’
He waited outside in the shade, sipping chocolate milk through a straw.
When they pulled up in front of the banana, he realised what a disappointment it was. But her skin looked soft and she smelled of jasmine.
‘Wow,’ he said. ‘Amazing.’
She knew it was underwhelming. But he seemed so excited.
‘Yeah,’ she said. ‘It’s bloody brilliant.’
